Players venturing into the Mirrorwood, the final area of Phantom Blade Zero's Crimson Forest, may find themselves perplexed by a unique maze puzzle. This area is located in the northeastern section of the Crimson Forest and features three mirror portals on the left, middle, and right. While the area is populated by non-hostile Puppet Children, players must contend with aggressive Crows that attack the player character, Soul.
The Mirrorwood maze relies on audio cues for its solution. An inscription on the trees within the maze instructs players to "Follow the sound of weeping." To progress, players must turn up their game volume and approach each mirror portal. The correct portal will emit the sound of a woman crying or sobbing. Successfully passing through the correct portal leads to another area where the same audio-based progression is required.
The puzzle requires players to navigate through the portals in specific sequences. The first sequence demands players enter the portals from left to right: Left, then Middle, then Right. The second sequence requires the order: Right, then Left, then Middle. For each correct sequence, the mists in the area will part, indicating progress. Upon completing the second sequence, the path forward becomes clear, revealing another bell to activate and a boss battle.
Players are also advised to collect the Memory Flowers of Inanis and Bai Chilian while in the Mirrorwood. Gathering these items is noted to enhance the spectacle of the subsequent boss fight. Additionally, revisiting the Mirrorwood later in the game, specifically during the Triple Threat/Three-Eyed Puppet quest, will present a transformed environment covered in snow, featuring new enemies and bosses.
