The "Charged Embers" Timed Research event is now live in Pokémon Go, offering players a branching questline that provides distinct in-game bonuses based on their chosen path. This event, running for five days until July 3rd at 8 PM local time, allows players to select one of three paths: Explore, Catch, or Battle. Each path presents unique challenges and rewards, and crucially, the choice is permanent once made.
Quest Path Options
The "Choose Your Path: Charged Embers" research features three distinct paths, each offering a specific bonus throughout its duration. Players must carefully consider which bonus best suits their playstyle and current goals within Pokémon Go, as the selection cannot be altered.
Explore Path
Selecting the Explore path grants players a bonus of halved Egg Hatch Distance. This means that the distance required to hatch Pokémon Eggs is reduced by 50 percent, allowing for more rapid hatching. The objectives for this path include walking specific distances, spinning PokéStops or Gyms, and hatching Eggs.
Step 2 of the Explore path tasks players with activities such as walking 3km, spinning 25 PokéStops or Gyms, and hatching 2 Eggs, with encounters featuring Magmar and Electabuzz. Completing these challenges yields three Golden Razz Berries and five Rare Candies.
Catch Path
The Catch path provides an additional Candy bonus for catching Pokémon with Nice Throws or better. This bonus encourages players to refine their catching techniques to maximize Candy acquisition, which is vital for evolving and powering up Pokémon. The path also details XP bonuses for various throw types, with Nice Throws yielding 30 XP, Great Throws 150 XP, and Excellent Throws 1,500 XP. Curveball throws offer slightly higher XP.
Similar to the Explore path, Step 2 of the Catch path involves making a certain number of specific throws, such as 15 Nice Throws or 3 Excellent Throws, leading to Magmar and Electabuzz encounters. The rewards remain consistent with three Golden Razz Berries and five Rare Candies.
Battle Path
For players who prefer engaging in battles, the Battle path offers an increased chance of obtaining Mysterious Components from Team GO Rocket Grunts. This bonus is most effective when actively seeking out and defeating Grunts. However, the utility of this bonus is limited by the fact that players cannot collect more Mysterious Components once they have a Rocket Radar equipped.
Step 2 of the Battle path requires players to win raids and defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts. Success in these tasks also leads to encounters with Magmar and Electabuzz, and rewards of three Golden Razz Berries and five Rare Candies.
Path Recommendation
While all paths offer valuable rewards, the Catch path is generally recommended due to its direct benefit to the core gameplay loop of catching Pokémon. The bonus Candy acquired through Nice Throws or better directly supports Pokémon evolution and power-ups. The Explore path is a strong second choice, particularly for players who have a backlog of Eggs or anticipate significant walking, as the halved hatch distance can significantly accelerate progress.
The Battle path, while appealing to raid enthusiasts, is considered the least beneficial due to the limited acquisition of Mysterious Components when a Rocket Radar is already in possession. Players are advised to weigh the benefits of each path against their personal gameplay objectives to make the most informed decision.
