Pokémon Go: How to Beat Mega Chandelure and Its Weaknesses

Mega Chandelure has arrived in Pokémon Go, appearing in Super Mega Raids during October 2026's Chandelure Super Mega Raid Day event. While it stands as a top-10 Fire-type attacker, its true power lies in being the best Ghost-type attacker currently available in the game. Acquiring this Mega Evolution is a priority for trainers looking to maximize their offensive capabilities.

Mega Chandelure Counters and Weaknesses

Mega Chandelure is a Ghost/Fire-type Pokémon, making it vulnerable to Dark, Ground, Fire, Rock, and Water attacks. It also boasts resistances against Bug, Fighting, Normal, Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, Poison, and Steel types, with Bug, Fighting, and Normal types taking double damage.

The most effective Mega counters against Mega Chandelure include Mega Houndoom with Dark Pulse, followed closely by Mega Greninja and Primal Groudon or Primal Kyogre. If Mega Evolutions are unavailable, Shadow Hydreigon and Shadow Tyranitar, both utilizing Brutal Swing, are the top non-Mega choices. Shadow Darkrai, Shadow Kyogre, and Shadow Garchomp are also strong alternatives. Regular versions of these Pokémon can still be effective if Shadow variants are not accessible.

Strategies for Defeating Mega Chandelure

Engaging Mega Chandelure in Super Mega Raids requires a coordinated effort. Trainers are strongly advised to team up with at least three other players for a higher chance of success. While highly optimized teams with maxed-out counters might allow for a solo attempt by experienced trainers, a group approach is generally recommended. Exploiting Mega Chandelure's five weaknesses with a well-prepared team, and having backup teams ready, will be key to victory. Mega Houndoom is the premier Mega Evolution to bring into battle, though other strong options like Mega Tyranitar can also be viable. A team composed of Mega Houndoom and multiple Shadow Hydreigon presents an optimal offensive strategy.

Mega Chandelure CP Details

During its Super Mega Raid, Mega Chandelure will have a Combat Power (CP) of 51,653. After a successful raid, trainers can encounter a regular Chandelure with a maximum catch CP of 1,867. This catch CP can increase to 2,335 when weather-boosted by Fog or Sunny conditions.

Recommended Moveset

For Mega Chandelure itself, the optimal moveset consists of the Fast Move Hex and the Charged Move Ominous Wind. This combination maximizes STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) and leverages its strength as a Ghost-type attacker. While Fire Spin is an alternative Fast Move, Hex is generally preferred for its Ghost-typing, especially when facing Psychic-type opponents.

Chandelure is not considered a top performer in PvP, and unlocking a second Charged Move is generally not recommended. Its full Fast Move options include Astonish, Hex, Fire Spin, and Incinerate. Charged Moves available are Energy Ball, Flame Charge, Ominous Wind, Overheat, and Shadow Ball. The legacy Fast Move Poltergeist is also an option.
