Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Mewtwo X have arrived in Pokémon Go as formidable foes in Super Mega Raids. Both were released during the 2026 Go Fest Global event and represent powerful additions to any trainer's collection. Mega Mewtwo Y is considered the premier Psychic-type Pokémon in the game, while Mega Mewtwo X remains a top-tier Fighting-type despite lacking a dedicated Fast Move of that type.
Taking on Mega Mewtwo Y
Mega Mewtwo Y is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon, making it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attacks. However, its Bug weakness is noted as less significant due to the general weakness of Bug-type Pokémon. The most effective Mega counters against Mega Mewtwo Y include another Mega Mewtwo Y with Shadow Ball, Mega Tyranitar, or Mega Mewtwo X, also utilizing Shadow Ball. Failing these, Mega Gengar or Mega Rayquaza can also be effective.
For non-Mega counters, Dawn Wings Necrozma stands out due to its dual-Ghost-type moveset. Other strong options include Shadow Tyranitar, Shadow Hydreigon, and Shadow Darkrai. Generally, employing your strongest Dark and Ghost-type Pokémon is advisable, with multiple teams prepared for backup given the difficulty of the raid. If Mega Mewtwo Y is not available, Mega Tyranitar with Brutal Swing is a solid alternative.
Defeating Mega Mewtwo Y is challenging, even by Super Mega Raid standards. It is highly recommended to attempt this raid with at least ten other trainers. High-level trainers with optimal counters may be able to succeed with five or six similarly equipped allies.
Mega Mewtwo Y's Raid CP is 99,042. A regular Mewtwo caught after defeating its Mega form will range from 3,554 to 3,673 CP, or 4,443 to 4,592 CP if caught during windy weather. The optimal moveset for Mega Mewtwo Y as a Psychic-type attacker is Confusion (Fast Move) and Psystrike (Charged Move). For Master League, Mewtwo's optimal moveset is Psycho Cut (Fast Move), Psystrike (Charged Move), and Shadow Ball (Charged Move), with the Shadow variant being superior.
Shiny Mewtwo Y is available in Pokémon Go, retaining its characteristic green coloration. It was first introduced during the Go Fest 2026: Tokyo event.
Confronting Mega Mewtwo X
Mega Mewtwo X, a Psychic/Fighting-type, is weak against Fairy, Ghost, and Flying-type attacks. Its potent offensive capabilities mean that trainers will need resilient Pokémon to withstand its assaults.
When selecting Mega counters, Mega Rayquaza with Air Slash and Dragon Ascent is the top recommendation. Following closely are Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Mewtwo X itself, and Mega Gardevoir. After these, Crowned Sword Zacian and Rayquaza are viable choices. Among non-Mega options, Dawn Wings Necrozma is a strong contender, along with Shadow Moltres, Yveltal, Lulana, and Shadow Mewtwo.
It is advised to bring your strongest Fairy, Ghost, and Flying-type Pokémon, and to have backup teams ready. trainers are strongly encouraged to team up with at least ten other players for this raid. Elite trainers with optimized teams might manage with a group of five or six.
Mega Mewtwo X's Raid CP is 94,179. A regular Mewtwo caught post-raid will fall within the 3,377 to 3,492 CP range, or 4,222 to 4,366 CP if caught during windy or cloudy weather. For Mega Mewtwo X, the recommended moveset is Confusion (Fast Move) and Psystrike (Charged Move) to maximize its Psychic-type potential. While it can use Psycho Cut and Focus Blast for a Fighting-type approach, it is generally considered less optimal for that role compared to its Psychic capabilities.
