Finding the ideal base location in Enshrouded can significantly enhance your survival and building experience. While every corner of Embervale offers potential, certain spots stand out for their aesthetic appeal or practical advantages.
Springlands
The Springlands region offers a good starting point for players looking for accessible resources and relatively safe building environments. My personal preference leans towards waterfront properties for their scenic beauty, though strategic positioning near mines or high ground can also be advantageous.
Fort Kelvin
Located near Revelwood and west of the Pillars of Creation, Fort Kelvin is a sprawling, abandoned town that presents a unique renovation opportunity. It features a central square, underground tunnels, and a pre-built tower, offering a substantial foundation for a new base.
Pondside Ruins
Just west of Fort Kelvin, this idyllic spot features a small pond with an island, making it a personal favorite for its charm. Building on the pier or expanding from the island can create a picturesque base, though players should be mindful of occasional enemy patrols passing nearby.
Western Waterfront
This location offers a waterside building plot that, while close to the Shroud, boasts a charming aesthetic. The uneven terrain presents a building challenge that can be embraced rather than leveled.
Mountainside Pond
South of the Springlands and near the Hollowed Halls, this location offers more flat building space than initially apparent. It provides convenient access to a nearby flint mine to the north.
Revelwood and Blackmire
These areas, while sometimes dark due to dense foliage, offer unique building opportunities.
Glenwood's End Neighboring Waterfall
Adjacent to Glenwood's End, this location features a captivating waterfall with a secret alcove, offering a visually appealing site for a base.
Blue Goblet Tavern
This pre-built tavern sits on a hilltop, providing more sunlight than many other spots in Revelwood. It's a manageable renovation project and offers proximity to nearby ore and clay deposits.
Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes
These regions offer more rugged and expansive landscapes.
Top of the Pillars of Creation
Placing a Flame Altar atop one of the Pillars of Creation is strategically useful for fast travel. The northern pillar is generally easier to build on, while the southern one provides closer access to copper mines.
Southern Foot of the Pillars of Creation
This mountainside nook is nestled between two Shroud stretches. While resources are not abundant, a limestone deposit is accessible via a nearby hookshot shortcut.
Shorewatch
Located in the Kindlewaste desert, Shorewatch is a manageable pre-built town with a tower that can be extended to optimize glider use. Its position makes it a convenient hub in an area with few fast travel points.
Albaneve Summits
This mountainous region offers secluded and scenic spots.
Hermit Lodgings
Northwest of the actual Hermit Lodgings landmark, this cute lakeside cabin provides a peaceful building site in the Albaneve Summits. The area is associated with a poignant in-game journal.
Veilwater Basin
This region includes large bodies of water and impressive natural features.
Dragondream Lake - Riverreach
This massive town in the northernmost corner of Dragondream Lake spans a significant waterfall. It offers enormous space, working waterwheels, and intricate underground cells, making it a monumental renovation project for those seeking an expansive base.
Dragondream Lake - Driftwood Wake
Across the lake from Riverreach, Driftwood Wake is a smaller, more practical option. Situated by the water with a waterfall nearby, it's a good alternative for those who find Riverreach too large.
