The Witcher 3: How to Transmog Your Armor and Weapons

The transmogrify feature, referred to as "reforging" in-game, allows players in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered to alter the appearance of their armor and weapons without sacrificing their statistical benefits. This means Geralt can wear his most powerful Witcher School gear while sporting the aesthetic of a different set, or even flamboyant Toussaint robes.

Unlocking Transmogrification

To access the transmog system, Geralt must seek out two specific master craftsmen: a master armorer and a master blacksmith. Standard armorers and blacksmiths, even those of "journeyman" or "amateur" grade, cannot perform this service. The required masters are Yoana, the armorer, and Hattori, the blacksmith.

Yoana, the master armorer, becomes available after completing the "Master Armorers" quest in central Velen. It is crucial to trust Yoana and Fergus during the quest and agree to test their finished armor. Failing to do so will prevent Yoana from offering her master services.

Hattori, the master blacksmith, can be found in Novigrad. He becomes accessible after completing the "Of Swords and Dumplings" quest. Players can initiate this quest by inquiring about other blacksmiths or visiting Hattori's forge. While there are no specific dialogue choices that will lock players out of his services, it is important to avoid any actions that could lead to quest failure, such as abandoning a combat encounter.

Using the Reforging Service

Once Yoana and Hattori are unlocked, players can change their gear's appearance by visiting them. Speak to Yoana for armor transmogrification and Hattori for weapon transmogrification, then access their "reforge" menu. The interface displays the player's currently equipped gear on the right side and a comprehensive list of all available equipment appearances on the left. Selecting an item from the left-hand list will apply its appearance to the currently worn gear.

Each transmogrification typically costs between 100 and 200 crowns, with the price varying based on the item's type. This process does not consume the original gear piece. To unlock an item's appearance for transmog, Geralt only needs to have acquired it once. It is not necessary to keep or carry the item. Gear pieces obtained before the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered update may require players to place them in their inventory to register their appearance for transmogrification.
