The Deserter side quest in Valor Mortis presents a multi-part investigation into why an Eternal Guardsman abandoned his post, taking a valuable item with him. Players must locate three Anubis Figurine Parts scattered throughout the game world to unravel this mystery.
Starting The Deserter Quest
The quest begins near the Under the Bridge Lantern in the Vale of Wrath. Proceed across the bridge and enter a small shack to the right, where a Wanted Notice on the floor will initiate The Deserter side quest. This notice hints at the guardsman's departure and the significance of the item he stole.
Locating the Beekeeper's Hut and First Figurine Part
Continue past the initial shack and follow the gravel path, which leads toward the Beekeeper's Hut. Use the grapple hooks to reach the hut. Before entering, you must defeat an Eternal Guardsman to obtain the Beekeeper's Hut Key. Inside the hut, a note on the desk provides further context for the quest. The note suggests the deserter feared meeting the same fate as other guards and that his stolen possession offered a way home.
Outside the hut, several beehives are present. One is unmarked, while others are marked with a red cross. Interacting with any marked hive will provoke the bees and cause damage. The first Anubis Figurine Part is found by interacting with the single unmarked beehive.
Finding the Second Anubis Figurine Part
Return to the nearby village from the Beekeeper's Hut and proceed straight towards the military encampment. Be cautious of certain wooden planks along this path, as they can give way, leading to an underground passage with enemies. This passage, while potentially introducing more combat, still leads toward the quest objective.
As you approach the encampment, look to the right of its surrounding walls for another set of beehives. Similar to the previous step, locate and interact with the unmarked beehive, which in this case is the rightmost one, to collect the second Anubis Figurine Part.
Acquiring the Third Anubis Figurine Part
The third figurine part requires progression through the Poisoned Camp in the Vale of Wrath. After crossing the bridge guarded by the Remnant of the Iron Regiment enemy, unlock the shortcut on the opposite side that leads back to the Under the Bridge Lantern. Beyond this bridge, a locked gate blocks progress. To open it, climb the rocks ahead and wall-ride into the adjacent building. Inside, a lever can be used to operate the gate, but you must use Stasis on the powering cog to keep it open.
After passing through the gate, enter the first house on your right. Through its back door, you will find four more beehives. The final Anubis Figurine Part is located within the leftmost beehive, as it is the only one not marked with a red cross.
Collecting all three Anubis Figurine Parts completes The Deserter quest. Players will receive a completed Anubis Figurine and the Bountiful Harvest Amber as rewards.
