The Emissary side quest in Valor Mortis begins when players acquire the Emissary's Seal from a wagon within a poison camp in the Valley of Ashes. This discovery prompts questions about the seal's origin and abandonment, which can only be fully answered later in the game.
Starting The Emissary Quest
The Emissary's Seal is found on a desk inside a luxurious wagon located in a poison camp. This camp is situated along the left passage near the Other Side Lantern in the Valley of Ashes. Picking up the seal initiates the side quest.
While collecting the seal marks the quest's start, its purpose and the story behind it remain unclear. The quest requires progression through the game to be completed. However, a clue can be discovered earlier.
Discovering the Emissary's Letter
After defeating the Slaughtermill boss in the Fallen Village, players can find the Emissary's Letter on the ground as they exit the boss arena. This document reveals that a traitor within the French officers led the others to the mill, raising suspicions about the Emissary's fate.
No further progress on this quest is possible until players unlock the Shield Transmutation ability in the University during Chapter 9 of the game.
Unlocking Shield Transmutation and Returning to the Poison Camp
Once the Shield Transmutation is available, players should fast travel back to the Other Side Lantern in the Valley of Ashes. Proceed toward the wagon where the Emissary's Seal was initially found. Navigate along the right side of the wagon, utilizing the Shield Transmutation to negate poison damage. Continue straight through the camp until it is safe to disable the Shield Transmutation.
Shortly after, a deceased soldier will be found alongside the Denunciatory Letter, which details accusations of inappropriate behavior against the emissary.
Confronting the Risen Soldier
Continuing along the path, players will encounter a soldier heavily corrupted by the game's antagonists. Interacting with this soldier triggers a challenging fight against a Risen Soldier, who can summon an ally to assist him.
After defeating the Risen Soldier, proceed past the encounter area and turn right to find a piece of Blood-Soaked Velvet next to a gate adorned with two tricolores.
Collecting the Blood-Soaked Velvet concludes The Emissary quest and grants the player the Remnant's Return consumable. Before departing, players can find a blue memory to listen to and a chest containing the Perfect Copy Amber.
