The Scarecrow side quest in Valor Mortis begins in the Fallen Village, tasking players with assisting a suffering scarecrow who is revealed to be a man pinned to a cross. To bring him peace, players must recover his scattered belongings.
Starting The Scarecrow Side Quest
The quest can be initiated and completed early in the Fallen Village. After reaching the Fields Lantern, proceed left from the lantern to find the scarecrow. Upon inspection, William notes the scarecrow is missing a medallion from his neck and has a torn pocket. The objective is to retrieve these two items.
Finding the Missing Medallion
Directly behind the scarecrow, a tree stands with a deceased soldier and a wooden cross nearby. On the ground at this location lies the Lover's Pendant, the scarecrow's missing medallion.
Locating the Missing Pocket
To find the pocket, players may need to have unlocked certain shortcuts in the Fallen Village. If the gate in front of the Fields Lantern has been opened from the opposite side, players can proceed through it. Immediately to the left of this opened gate is a house with a wooden wheel on its front. This house's front door may be locked unless previously explored.
Alternatively, proceed straight through the village, facing away from the Fields Lantern, and turn left into the wheat fields. Players will encounter a Grenadier and several Shambling Civilians if they are on the correct path. Continue through the wheat field, then turn left again. This will lead to the back door of the aforementioned house, which should be open.
Inside the house, ascend to the second floor and collect the Letter with a Drawing from the desk. The quest will update, indicating that both items have been retrieved and should be returned.
Returning the Belongings and Following the Crows
After collecting the items, players can exit the house through the now unbolted front door and return to the scarecrow to hand over his belongings. William will note that the scarecrow seems at peace, and the crows that were circling him have departed.
Players must then follow these crows. Observe their flight path from a distance, as they will lead to a wooden shack situated in the earlier wheat field.
Completing The Scarecrow Quest
Upon reaching the circled shack, ascend to the second floor. Here, listen to the blue memory and interact with the hay bales to conclude The Scarecrow quest. The reward for completion is the Bountiful Harvest Amber.
