Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a new peripheral designed to be significantly smaller than the standard Xbox controller. The company states the Nano is intended to fit "nearly every pocket and budget," making it an appealing option for younger players, those with smaller hands, or individuals seeking a highly portable gaming accessory. This release marks the smallest controller Microsoft has ever developed.
The Xbox Nano controller measures just over five inches in length and weighs a mere 3.5 ounces. Despite its diminutive size, it retains all 18 expected gameplay buttons, ensuring a familiar feel for users. The controller is priced at $50 USD, reflecting its smaller footprint and cost-effective design.
Microsoft is also introducing bundles featuring the Nano controller. A holiday bundle with Samsung includes the controller and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new subscribers with the purchase of a new Samsung TV. Additionally, Microsoft and Meta are collaborating on a package that bundles the Nano controller, two months of Game Pass, and a Meta Quest headset.
For those planning to use the Nano controller for cloud streaming, Microsoft has indicated that usage caps will soon be implemented, requiring additional payment for extended play beyond a certain limit. The Nano controller utilizes rechargeable batteries and features a programmable action button for quick access to functions like taking screenshots or capturing gameplay.
The announcement of the Xbox Nano controller follows Sony's reveal of a limited-edition DualSense controller for Gran Turismo. Preorders for the Xbox Nano controller are currently open.
