Snap's SPECS AR Glasses Now Available for Preorder at $2,195

Snap Inc. has officially opened preorders for its inaugural augmented reality glasses, known as SPECS. The device is expected to start shipping in the United States, United Kingdom, and France in the fall of 2026. SPECS is designed for everyday wear, featuring a lightweight Swiss TR90 thermoplastic construction available in 47mm and 52mm sizes, with the smaller variant weighing 4.6 ounces.

The glasses project user interface elements onto transparent waveguide lenses, maintaining spatial awareness, or can provide a full-color immersive display with a 51-degree field of view, comparable to a 115-inch screen at a distance of ten feet. The lenses are electrochromatic, adjusting tint based on lighting conditions, and are compatible with prescription lenses.

SPECS integrates dual Snapdragon processors and runs on Snap OS 2.0. Its array of infrared and RGB cameras, along with sensors, enable computer vision, contextual awareness, and AI assistance to understand the user's environment and deliver real-time information. The device leverages Snap's existing AR ecosystem and Lens platform.

With an estimated four-hour battery life for mixed-use operation, SPECS offers a tetherless experience. A bundled charging case extends total usage time to 20 hours.

Retailing at $2,195, including a $200 refundable deposit, SPECS is positioned as an advanced consumer AR device. While the price point may limit accessibility, Snap suggests potential benefits for creators, professionals seeking spatial productivity tools, travelers, and those interested in AI-powered wearable technology.
