Microsoft is testing a new feature for Windows 11 Insiders that allows users to check their internet speed directly from the Quick Settings panel, eliminating the need to open a web browser. This functionality is available in the latest experimental build, 26340.9767.
Users can access the speed test by clicking on Quick Settings and scrolling down to find the speed test button. Alternatively, right-clicking the network icon in the system tray and selecting "Test internet speed" will also initiate the test, providing download and upload speed measurements. Previously, this function would redirect users to Bing within a browser to perform the test.
Alongside the integrated speed test, Preview Build 26340.9767 includes other additions. Feature flags have been introduced for filtering enabled or disabled options, Quick Settings now provides access to mobile phones, a Magnifier keyboard shortcut has been added, and there is an easier way to access Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
Participation in the Windows Insider program allows early access to these features. However, there is no guarantee that all experimental updates will make their way to the stable release of Windows 11, as Microsoft may remove features based on user feedback. Still, the native internet speed test appears to be a user-friendly addition that streamlines access to a commonly needed diagnostic tool.
