Aggro Crab, the studio behind the popular indie title "Another Crab's Treasure," has established a new publishing label named Aggro Crab Presents. This move follows a growing trend of successful independent game developers reinvesting their earnings into supporting other emerging studios. Aggro Crab's decision to form a publishing arm comes after experiencing significant success with their own titles.

This initiative mirrors similar ventures from other indie developers, such as Outersloth, the publishing companion to Innersloth, creators of "Among Us," and PocketPair, which launched a publishing company after the success of "Palworld." The trend also includes developers of "Phasmophobia" and even YouTuber videogamedunkey, who founded BigMode. These new publishers aim to offer more sustainable business models in response to the ongoing labor challenges within the video game industry.

Publishers like Aggro Crab Presents typically offer more favorable contract terms to developers compared to traditional publishers. These terms often ensure that developers retain a larger share of their game's profits, potentially mitigating the risk of layoffs that can occur after a game's release. While these new entities may not operate at the scale of major publishers like EA or Activision, they often focus on publishing unique titles that prioritize creative vision and gameplay innovation over broad market appeal.

In its announcement, Aggro Crab Presents stated its intention to engage actively in the development process of the games it signs. A key commitment from the new publisher is an explicit rejection of generative AI in game development, with the company asserting, "And NO generative AI slop." The label has already secured its first signing: "Rebounder," a precision platformer slated for release next year.
