Bobby Kotick Joins Skydance Board Following Warner Bros. and Paramount Merger

Bobby Kotick, the former CEO of Activision-Blizzard, has been appointed to the board of directors for Skydance, the new parent company formed from the merger of Warner Bros. and Paramount. The appointment follows the official completion of Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros., a $111 billion deal that significantly reshapes the entertainment industry.

Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison stated that Kotick brings valuable experience in building long-lasting franchises and connecting with fans, citing his "record of pairing bold strategic moves with disciplined capital allocation" as crucial for the merging businesses. The announcement also noted the addition of investor and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs to the board.

Kotick's tenure as head of Activision-Blizzard was marked by public lawsuits alleging a toxic work culture and widespread sexual harassment. While the company settled these claims for $54 million in 2023 without admitting wrongdoing, employee dissatisfaction and protests, including a walkout in 2021, were well-documented. Kotick remained CEO until the end of 2023, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.

The recent Microsoft acquisition integrated Activision-Blizzard titles into Game Pass but also led to significant layoffs. While no specific plans have been announced for Skydance, the integration of Warner Bros. and Paramount, which includes WB Games, publisher of titles such as the Batman: Arkham series, Hogwarts Legacy, and Mortal Kombat, could potentially lead to similar restructuring or workforce reductions.
