Compulsion Games Seeks New Collaborations After Achieving Independence from Xbox

Montreal-based developer Compulsion Games has announced its availability for collaborations with other studios across the games and entertainment industry. This comes after the studio successfully negotiated its independence from Xbox Game Studios, a move that saw it avoid the mass layoffs that affected several other Xbox-owned developers.

Compulsion Games, known for titles such as "We Happy Few" and the recently released "South of Midnight," stated on LinkedIn that it is looking to expand opportunities to work with partners. The studio aims to leverage its team's talent and creativity to support the development of new projects. "We are excited to support the development of memorable experiences that engage and entertain players around the world," the studio shared in its statement.

"South of Midnight" was released in 2025 to critical acclaim, earning an 8 out of 10 from IGN and generally favorable reviews on Metacritic. Xbox had acquired Compulsion Games in 2018. The publisher's recent restructuring within its studios, including departures from Double Fine, Undead Labs, Ninja Theory, and Arkane, is reportedly part of a strategy to concentrate on its major franchises.
