Fraser Brown Reflects on His First MMO Character: Zarwulf, the Orc Hunter

For many gamers, the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) character holds a special place in their digital history. For Fraser Brown, that character was Zarwulf, an Orc Hunter from World of Warcraft, created around 2004.

While Zarwulf wasn't the absolute first MMO character Brown ever played – he admits to being too young to recall details from his early experiences with Ultima Online in 1998 – Zarwulf remains a vivid memory from his university days. During that period, Brown was deeply immersed in games like World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, and Guild Wars.

Zarwulf, with his imposing demeanor, depicted as having a large sword and a grim expression, along with a likely pet wolf, exists now as a digital relic, frozen in time. Brown has no intention of revisiting the character, preferring to let the past remain undisturbed. However, the spirit of Zarwulf lives on in his current gaming habits, as he sometimes plays as a Daredevil character with the same name in Guild Wars 2.
