Marty O'Donnell, the composer behind the iconic Halo soundtrack, has once again failed to secure a seat in Congress, losing his bid for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District in the 2026 elections. This marks the second time the Bungie veteran has been rejected by voters, having previously lost the primary for the same district in 2024.
In contrast, Nathan Johnson, who composed music for the early English dubs of Dragon Ball Z, achieved a significant victory, winning the race for Texas Attorney General in a major upset. This win makes Johnson the first Democrat to hold the office in over 30 years.
O'Donnell's campaign in Nevada garnered support from former President Donald Trump and an online community of gamers critical of perceived "woke" culture. However, this support did not translate into electoral success. Incumbent Susie Lee defeated O'Donnell by a substantial margin of approximately 50,000 votes, a significant increase from her narrow victory in 2024. Following her win, Lee's campaign staff celebrated by sharing a viral video of the Halo theme song, with Lee telling O'Donnell, "Enjoy your retirement." O'Donnell responded, "Susie has a lot of class. And it’s all low."
Meanwhile, in Texas, Johnson's victory in the race for Attorney General is being hailed as a significant outcome for the state's legal landscape. Prior to his political career, Johnson managed a music company in the 1990s that produced scores for popular Dragon Ball Z productions, including the first 67 episodes of the Ultimate Uncut Special Edition redub and English dubs for films such as Tree of Might and The World's Strongest. During his campaign, Johnson stated his willingness to take legal action against the Trump administration if it violated Texas law.
