Koei Tecmo is shifting its strategy to foster a more balanced game portfolio, moving away from an over-reliance on major, large-scale titles. While the company anticipates significant success from anticipated releases such as Wo Long 2 and the third installment of Attack on Titan, its latest financial report indicates a broader development approach.
According to a rundown of the company's first-quarter earnings briefing for the fiscal year ending March 2027, Koei Tecmo plans to build a diverse portfolio that includes not only major games but also mid-range titles. This approach aims to ensure a continuous stream of new releases through fiscal year 2027, incorporating both announced and unannounced projects. The company intends to launch six major console and PC titles, 19 mid-range games, and two original online and mobile titles within the short to mid-term.
Despite this focus on diversification, Koei Tecmo has placed high expectations on its next two triple-A releases, Attack on Titan 3 and Wo Long 2. Additionally, an all-new action game featuring oriental-style aesthetics is reportedly in development. The company's strategy also encompasses ports and remasters, such as the upcoming Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster, alongside continued support and DLC for existing titles like Pokémon Pokopia.
This emphasis on a varied development structure, which includes catering to loyal communities with smaller, niche projects, is seen as a sensible approach within the current gaming industry landscape.
