LinkedIn Introduces 'Seems Like AI Slop' Reporting Feature

LinkedIn has introduced a new reporting option aimed at combating the proliferation of low-quality, AI-generated content on its platform. The professional networking site is now offering a "Seems like AI slop" button, allowing users to flag posts that appear to be automatically generated.

According to Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn's Chief Product Officer, this new feature is designed to assist in training LinkedIn's own AI tools. By collecting user reports, the platform aims to improve its ability to identify and potentially reduce the visibility of AI-generated material that contributes to a decline in content quality. The move comes despite LinkedIn's previous promotion of its own AI-powered writing assistant.

The introduction of the "Seems like AI slop" button addresses a growing concern among users about the prevalence of AI-generated text, often characterized as "thought leadership" posts that lack substantive value and are filled with excessive emojis and viral-bait tactics.

While the feature aims to improve the user experience on LinkedIn by filtering out what some consider to be AI-generated "slop," the broader impact on AI infrastructure development remains a separate issue. The article notes that even a ban on AI content on social media platforms may not significantly influence the escalating prices of gaming hardware, such as RAM, which have been linked to the overall buildout of AI infrastructure.
