YouTube sensation MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has ventured into the literary world with his debut novel, "The Most Dangerous Games." However, the thriller, co-written with best-selling author James Patterson, is reportedly experiencing significantly low pre-order sales, with one report labeling it "on track to be a historic bomb."
The novel, priced at $35 for a hardcover edition, is described as a fictionalized account of a large-scale MrBeast survival game. It follows 100 strangers competing for a billion-dollar prize through a series of perilous challenges set in locations such as Antarctica and remote islands, while also navigating deadly alliances.
According to Semafor, via The Hollywood Reporter, pre-order sales for the book are said to be in the "four digits." A publishing source speaking to IGN, however, noted that single-digit thousands in pre-orders are typical for books of this nature. The ultimate sales performance remains to be seen, especially as Donaldson plans to promote the book through his extensive YouTube platform, with the lucrative year-end sales season approaching.
MrBeast has already initiated promotional efforts, including a YouTube video offering viewers a chance to win $1,000,000 by reading his book. Despite potential sales fluctuations, publisher HarperCollins may face financial implications depending on the advance paid to Donaldson and Patterson for the publishing rights and manuscript.
"A thousand strangers receive the invitation," reads a blurb for the novel. "One hundred make the cut. The Games begin in Antarctica, where one wrong step on the ice kills you, and they never let up: Shark water off a remote Chilean island, desert heat that cooks you where you stand, storm-battered peaks, and caves so black you cannot find your own hand. No rescue. No second chances. A billion dollars to whoever is still standing.
Then the terrain stops being the thing that can kill you, and the other players start. Alliances turn into ambushes. Trust becomes the sharpest weapon. And somewhere above it all, a hidden voice is watching every move, testing, deciding who deserves to survive."
"The Most Dangerous Games" officially launched today.
