PlayerUnknown's Brendan Greene Scales Back Studio Amid Funding Challenges

Brendan Greene, known globally as "PlayerUnknown" and creator of PUBG, has announced that his studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, is moving forward with a smaller team due to difficulties in securing additional funding. Greene publicly expressed gratitude for the team's professionalism during this challenging period.

In a message shared on social media, Greene acknowledged the tough climate for funding in the games industry, stating that many independent developers face similar struggles. He noted that he was fortunate to have the option to personally sustain the studio for a time, a privilege not available to most independent studios. However, this approach could only continue for so long, leading to the necessity of reducing the team size and seeking suitable partners for the project.

Greene emphasized that the decision to downsize the workforce was not easy, but he commended the team for building a strong studio culture despite the uncertainties. He expressed pride in the game the team developed and regret that they could not complete the journey together. The game, "Prologue: Go Wayback!", has now been released for free, and Greene encouraged players to explore its world. He also extended his thanks to the community for their engagement with the worlds created by the studio.
