PlayStation to Remove Hundreds of Digital Movies from Libraries

Sony has informed PlayStation customers that hundreds of digital movies, previously purchased through its online store, will be removed from their libraries later this year. The removals are scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2026, due to "content licensing arrangements."

Hundreds of Studio Canal movies, including titles such as Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Evil Dead, will no longer be accessible to those who purchased them digitally on the PlayStation platform. A message sent to customers states that these films will be removed from video libraries, and users will no longer be able to watch them.

The PlayStation website lists 551 premium movies that are affected by this change. While many users have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision online, the inherent risks associated with digital purchases are often detailed within the terms and conditions of digital storefronts. Such arrangements mean that digital content can be revoked at any time, even after purchase, based on evolving licensing agreements.
