Rockstar Employment Tribunal Delayed to November, Clashes with GTA 6 Release Window

The employment tribunal between Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto 6, and members of the IWBG union who were laid off from the studio, has been extended into November. The case was originally scheduled to conclude this Friday, but due to extended witness cross-examination, the final submission dates have been moved.

Two new dates, November 17th and 18th, have been added to the trial schedule. This places the closing arguments just one day before the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. It remains unclear whether this proximity will benefit or harm either Rockstar or the IWGB, as the game's launch could either draw more attention to the legal proceedings or overshadow them.

The tribunal stems from the dismissal of over 30 Rockstar employees in late 2025. The employees were reportedly dismissed for alleged gross misconduct after participating in a union Discord channel. The IWGB contends that these firings were an attempt by Rockstar to prevent unionization, while the developer maintains that the dismissals were due to the unauthorized sharing of internal company information.

During the proceedings, a representative from Rockstar Lincoln reportedly expressed disinterest in evidence related to unionization efforts leading up to the firings, focusing instead on other matters like the creation of a union Twitter account. The outcome of this case is still uncertain, but as a significant legal case within the UK games industry, its resolution could have lasting repercussions.
