Skydance Games, recently formed from the merger of WB Games and Paramount Games, has implemented a company-wide mandate requiring all employees to return to the office five days a week. This policy affects Skydance's gaming division, DC Comics, and its other media subsidiaries.
In addition to the strict return-to-office (RTO) order, Skydance is also offering a voluntary buyout program. Industry observers suggest that these measures are intended to reduce headcount without the negative publicity and severance packages typically associated with formal layoffs.
This move follows a period of restructuring for WB Games, which saw the closure of Monolith Productions, the studio behind a planned Wonder Woman game, as well as the Player First Games studio responsible for MultiVersus and the Warner Bros. San Diego mobile development studio. At the time, WB Games stated these changes were to refocus on core franchises like Harry Potter and Mortal Kombat. Earlier this month, Paramount and Warner Bros. completed their $110 billion merger under the Skydance name.
