Sony-owned studio Sucker Punch Productions has reportedly laid off 24 employees, according to a report from Aftermath. This marks another instance of job reductions within the games industry. The studio, known for the critically and commercially successful titles Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei, is estimated to have between 190 and 230 staff. The reported layoffs suggest a loss of at least 10% of its workforce.
Studio leadership communicated the decision in an email, stating, "After carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project, we've decided to make some staffing reductions." The email also acknowledged the difficulty of the decision and pledged support for affected employees, noting, "Next week we will go into more details about the future."
Sucker Punch has focused on its open-world samurai adventure games for the past decade. Ghost of Tsushima had sold over 8 million copies by 2022, and Ghost of Yotei was reported as Sony's best-selling title on the PlayStation 5 as of June 2026. The studio's most recent release was the expansion "Echoes of Sekigahara" for Ghost of Yotei, which featured the return of the original game's protagonist, Jin Sakai.
This is not the first time Sucker Punch has experienced layoffs following a successful release. The studio also underwent unspecified layoffs in 2014, shortly after the launch of Infamous Second Son and its expansion First Light.
