The climate change satire "Digger," starring Tom Cruise, is reportedly on track to lose $250 million by the end of its theatrical run, according to TheWrap. Insiders at Skydance, the new parent company overseeing Warner Bros., do not anticipate the film will surpass $40 million in worldwide box office receipts.
This projection follows a disappointing opening weekend, where "Digger" grossed only $8 million domestically and an additional $12 million internationally. Warner Bros. has not commented on these financial claims.
Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for his two consecutive Best Director Oscar wins for "Birdman" and "The Revenant," "Digger" has divided both critics and audiences. Despite efforts to leverage mixed reviews, the film has struggled to translate critical reception into box office success. IGN's review noted that while the film offered "the budget to let some very talented artists work at the top of their game," it was "far from a must-watch."
