Zavvi Enters Administration Again, Ceases Trading

Zavvi has entered administration and ceased trading, the former game-seller announced on its website. The insolvency process is now underway, with BDO LLP handling the administration.

In a statement, the company confirmed it is "unable to fulfil any outstanding orders or pre-orders" and "unable to accept any returns for items of any kind." Zavvi acknowledged that customers who have paid for undelivered goods will be concerned and suggested they contact their bank, card issuer, or payment providers to explore options for recovering payments. A dedicated customer inquiry email address has been established, though it is expected to primarily provide automated responses.

Reports of Zavvi's intention to appoint administrators surfaced approximately a month prior, with the stated aim of "protecting the business and its stakeholders and securing the best possible outcome." Whether this move signals a genuine attempt at restructuring or a precursor to closure remains uncertain.

Zavvi, once a prominent name in video game retail, has a history of financial difficulties. The company originated in 2007 when Virgin Megastores separated from the Virgin Group. Within a year, in 2008, Zavvi entered administration for the first time. The Hut Group acquired Zavvi out of administration in 2009, subsequently shifting its focus more towards broader pop culture and entertainment merchandise.
