The highly anticipated Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is set to launch soon, allowing players to once again experience the thrill of aerial combat. Bandai Namco has announced that preorders are now live, with select retailers offering a discount on the standard and Deluxe Editions.
This latest installment in the long-running series promises a fresh campaign narrative and a robust multiplayer experience. Players will step into the role of a silent protagonist, serving as the weapons systems officer for naval aviator Jan Cope. Following Cope's demise in action, the player assumes command of the "Wings of Theve" and the Joker Flight squadron, leading them through the Sotoa-Usea War. Key combat decisions and performance will influence the squadron's fate and dictate the outcome of the conflict.
Ace Combat 8 will feature a roster of 30 distinct aircraft, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. A notable new mechanic allows players to damage enemy aircraft by targeting any part of the vehicle, moving beyond the traditional lock-on system for specific weak points. This adds a new layer of strategic depth to dogfights.
Beyond the single-player campaign, the game boasts an expansive multiplayer component. Players can customize their avatars and explore airbases before engaging in various modes. These include a Player vs. Environment (PvE) mode where players face off against AI-controlled enemies, and a Warfare mode that emphasizes team-based combat against both human players and AI opponents, with objectives spanning land, sea, and air.
Fans can preorder the standard edition of Ace Combat 8 for $60.19, representing a 14% discount from the usual price. The Deluxe Edition is available for $77.39 and includes a cosmetic set, a Premium Ace Pass Plus voucher, and three days of early access. Both editions will provide a Steam key upon purchase.
