The Acer Predator Atlas 8 handheld gaming PC, featuring Intel's new Arc G3 Extreme graphics, is now available for purchase at Best Buy for $1,299.99. Orders placed as of October 23 are shipping immediately, positioning the device as a competitive alternative to other high-end handhelds on the market.
Performance and Features
The Intel Arc G3 Extreme graphics are built on the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Panther Lake platform, boasting 14 cores, 14 threads, and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.7GHz. In practical terms, this CPU is noted as being significantly more powerful than the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme. While the Acer variant has not yet been reviewed, a similar MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ handheld equipped with the Arc G3 Extreme demonstrated performance improvements of up to 40% over Z2 Extreme-powered devices, capable of running most games at 60fps on its 1200p display. The Acer Predator Atlas 8 is priced considerably lower than the MSI Claw 8 EX, which retailed for $1,800.
The handheld features an 8-inch IPS display with a 1920x1200 resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz with VRR support, 500 nits of peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with DXC protection. It is equipped with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 512GB internal SSD, with support for storage expansion via a MicroSD card slot. The controls include TMR non-contact drift-resistant joysticks and dual-mode Hall Effect triggers.
Connectivity options include two USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C ports that support DisplayPort 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 with 65W Power Delivery, a MicroSD expansion slot, and a headphone jack. Wireless connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Given its aggressive pricing and the approaching holiday shopping season, the Acer Predator Atlas 8 is expected to be in high demand and potentially difficult to find in stock for an extended period.
