Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a retro first-person shooter drawing heavy inspiration from GoldenEye 007, is set to release on August 11. Developed by a solo creator, Replicant D6, the game has been in development for five and a half years.
The game casts players as spyman John Walter, tasked with thwarting the world-domination plans of nemesis Dominic Pulp. Gameplay will involve a variety of objectives, including hacking terminals, stealing plans, and rescuing hostages across diverse environments. The main campaign can be experienced solo or cooperatively with friends through split-screen or online play. The developer has noted that the game features hip-fire shooting without crosshairs, with an optional right-mouse-button aiming mode for precision shots.
Beyond the main story, Agent 64 includes a "paradox mode" that becomes accessible after completing in-game challenges. This mode introduces cheats and modifiers, such as an optional big head mode, a melee slap option, and a ban on reloading.
For players seeking competitive action, an arena mode supports multiplayer battles for up to eight players and eight bots. These matches can be standard deathmatches or objective-based modes like capturing a briefcase or holding map zones. Additionally, special score challenge matches against bots are available, which can unlock new maps, characters, and music tracks.
A demo for Agent 64: Spies Never Die has been available on Steam during its development period. Those interested can wishlist the game on Steam to receive updates ahead of its August 11 release.
