Agent 64: Spies Never Die, an indie first-person shooter heavily inspired by GoldenEye 007, will launch on PC via Steam on August 11. The game experienced several delays, with an initial target release in 2022, but developer Replicant D6 has now confirmed the upcoming launch date.
A new trailer showcases the game's features, including silenced headshots, melee combat, and split-screen multiplayer. Console ports are planned, though their release timing remains unconfirmed. The Steam description details plans for local co-op and player-versus-player modes on the same machine, in addition to standard online options.
The game will also include a comprehensive cheat system and custom modes at launch, without the need for paid downloadable content. Players can expect over 70 nostalgic cheats and modifiers, such as "Big Heads," "Melee Disarms," slow bullet speeds, and random weapon changes within a "Paradox Mode."
While the GoldenEye influence is evident, Agent 64 aims to offer more than a simple throwback. Based on impressions from the Steam demo, which offers a substantial portion of the game's 14-mission campaign, the aiming is more responsive, levels are larger, and quality-of-life improvements to shooting and movement mechanics are present. These additions draw inspiration from other classic FPS titles like Turok and Half-Life, suggesting a broader appreciation for the genre's evolution.
