Assassin's Creed Creator's 'Dark and Witchy' Action Game 1666: Amsterdam Gets Early Access Release Date

1666: Amsterdam, a project that has endured years of legal disputes between its creator Patrice Désilets and Ubisoft, is set to launch in early access on August 25th for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game was recently re-revealed with a trailer showcasing a witch wielding magic and a broomstick in 17th-century Amsterdam.

Developer Panache Digital previously released a playable prologue for 1666: Amsterdam. The early access version will offer approximately 10 hours of gameplay, with the full release intended to be more than double that length. While the early access period is open-ended, the developer has an internal target and is open to community feedback for adjustments.

The narrative of 1666: Amsterdam spans multiple timelines. Players will control a witch named Noa in the year 1666, a civilian named Aaron in 1999, and a modern-day descendant of Noa. A magical connection links Aaron and Noa, with each becoming the other's cat familiar in their respective time periods. The descendant then continues their story in the present day.

Despite its lengthy development, which has been ongoing in various forms for 15 years, 1666: Amsterdam appears to be moving closer to a full release. An earlier preview described the game as somewhat awkward but rich with intriguing ideas.
