The ASUS Xbox ROG Ally X20 handheld gaming PC has officially been released, with orders now shipping out. The device is currently available for $1,299.99 at Best Buy, which was one of the two initial preorder locations alongside the ASUS eShop. Early impressions from IGN were positive, with a review noting its strengths.
The X20 introduces several design and display enhancements over its predecessor. It features a new transparent black shell with gold accents, a 7.4-inch OLED display boasting 1,400 nits of brightness, and support for MicroSD Express storage expansion. The second USB-C port now includes DisplayPort 2.1 support. For controls, the X20 incorporates TMR drift-resistant joysticks, domed ABXY buttons, and a redesigned pull-out rotating D-pad that can switch between 4-way and 8-way modes. It also includes impulse triggers with haptic feedback and rubberized grips for improved handling.
Internally, the ROG Ally X20 maintains a high-performance configuration, featuring the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a 1TB SSD. This setup positions it as a powerful Ryzen-based handheld, offering performance superior to previous variants. The device runs on Windows with an integrated Xbox user interface, though users have the option to install Steam OS. IGN's review suggests the Xbox Ally provides a comparable or superior experience to the Steam Deck.
Alongside the new X20 release, significant discounts are available on the previous Asus ROG Xbox Ally X model. Best Buy is offering open-box units in various conditions, with prices starting as low as $789.99 for a "Fair Condition" model. Units in "Excellent Condition," described as being in like-new functional and cosmetic state with minimal usage, are available for $849.99. These preowned units are verified by Geek Squad and come with a 15-day return policy, and may retain some of their original warranty.
