The action RPG Crimson Moon is set to launch on September 1, adding another title to a busy release schedule for the month. Developed by ProbablyMonsters, the game will be available at a $20 price point.
Crimson Moon adapts core Soulslike genre tenets into a run-based action RPG that emphasizes replayable missions. Players assume the role of a half-human, half-angel protagonist battling through the besieged city of Gildenarch. The gameplay features precise combat and character progression typical of the genre. Missions can be undertaken solo or with a partner in two-player cooperative mode. The game's difficulty scales to accommodate both solo and co-op play across Gildenarch's three districts. Completing all three districts consecutively leads to a confrontation with one of three world bosses, designed to challenge player mastery, culminating in an exceptionally difficult final boss.
Despite its focus on precision combat, ProbablyMonsters aims for Crimson Moon to be an accessible experience, both in terms of gameplay and cost. "We've made Crimson Moon an intense action-adventure RPG that's approachable to players," said general manager and game director David Lesperance in a press release. "With our gothic-inspired art design, co-op support, and epic metal soundtrack, we've made something truly unique for gamers to experience this September."
A Deluxe Edition of Crimson Moon is available for $30, which includes the Ceremonial Armor Set and the Axe of the Gods weapon cosmetic, along with an unannounced expansion planned for post-launch.
Crimson Moon will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game faces stiff competition from other major releases in September, including the action/RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, which is slated to arrive just two days later. The developer is hopeful that Crimson Moon's unique structure, accessible price, and early September release date will attract players.
