Dinoblade Launches, Offering a Janky Yet Thrilling Dinosaur Combat Experience

Dinoblade, the game conceived from a viral developer animation, is now available. The title merges janky, over-the-top action with genuinely satisfying combat, offering players a unique dinosaur-versus-dinosaur fighting experience.

The game's premise is built around a cataclysmic event that has dinosaurs battling each other with bladed weapons. Players control a spinosaurus who, after forming a pact with a mysterious entity, enters the fray. Mechanically, Dinoblade draws comparisons to Sekiro with its emphasis on parrying, though it leans more heavily into action elements. Despite its absurd concept, the combat is designed to feel good, featuring responsive parries, a combination of quick and heavy attacks for fluid combos, and readable enemy animations.

The game does exhibit some jank, particularly with environmental interactions, which can feel a bit awkward or clunky. However, the developer, noted as being a single individual, has seemingly earned some leniency for these rough edges, especially given the game's central conceit of controlling a giant dinosaur. Issues such as invisible enemies and occasional environmental loading problems have been noted, but do not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.

A standout feature is the ability to summon defeated bosses to perform powerful attacks, adding to the game's absurd and enjoyable nature. This is complemented by other powers, including energy beams fired from a sword and a roar that can freeze enemies. These elements contribute to a gameplay experience that, while not revolutionary, is described as a cohesive and enjoyable title, evoking the spirit of obscure PS2 or Dreamcast-era games.

Dinoblade is available now on Steam, and a demo is also offered for players who wish to try it before purchasing.
