Dune: Awakening Launches on Consoles September 22, Bringing Open-World Arrakis Adventure to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Funcom's open-world survival RPG, Dune: Awakening, is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22. The game, developed with assistance from Nukklear and built using Unreal Engine 5, offers players an expansive adventure across the desert planet Arrakis. This console launch arrives just months before the theatrical release of Dune: Part Three, scheduled for December 18.

Dune: Awakening immerses players in the harsh environment of Arrakis, where survival hinges on resource gathering, equipment crafting, and managing essential needs like hydration and shelter. Players must also contend with the planet's iconic giant sandworms while engaging in the trade of the valuable spice. The game's art direction has been noted for its quality, even inspiring a coffee table book.

The console version of Dune: Awakening will include significant enhancements that have been implemented in the PC version since its launch. These additions encompass new story chapters, expanded specialization options for player characters, additional maps, and new combat zones. The gear obtained from these combat zones constitutes the game's endgame content, which was not a prominent feature at the initial PC release.

A new single-player mode will also be available for both console players at launch and existing PC players in September. This mode provides an option for those who prefer to experience the game without engaging in online multiplayer interactions. The PC version of Dune: Awakening experienced a challenging launch, with some players encountering issues such as characters appearing naked and stranded. The development team has since dedicated efforts to refining the player experience.
