Entropy, a turn-based, post-apocalyptic RPG from developer Lovely Hellplace, has officially launched into early access. Known for their previous title Dread Delusion, Lovely Hellplace brings a similarly grim aesthetic to Entropy, which draws comparisons to both Final Fantasy and XCOM.
The game is set in a bleak world where humanity is on the brink of extinction due to the passage of time and a pervasive infertility. Players begin by putting on a theatrical performance, which is soon interrupted by the arrival of demons, forcing them to embark on a journey towards hell itself. The narrative presents players with difficult choices and narrative conundrums.
Entropy features tactical, turn-based combat. A key mechanic is the permanent death of party members, a feature reminiscent of XCOM, which adds significant pressure to player decisions. The game also incorporates soulslike mechanics and includes a 3D overworld for exploration, echoing classic Final Fantasy titles.
The early access release includes the entirety of the game's first act, which is estimated to be about a quarter of the full experience. This portion contains two towns, three dungeons, and numerous smaller locations and challenges, along with a variety of characters, weapons, armors, and spells. The developers anticipate Entropy will remain in early access for approximately one year, with two additional acts planned for future releases.
A demo for Entropy is available for those uncertain about the game, and the full early access version can be purchased on Steam.
