LEGO has opened preorders for its first-ever Super Mario sets that incorporate minifigures of Mario and other characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. These new sets are distinct from previous LEGO Mario offerings and are scheduled for release on January 1.
Several retailers, including Amazon and Target, are currently accepting preorders for these upcoming sets. While the LEGO Store is listing the products, preorders have not yet gone live on its platform. These sets will feature minifigures of characters such as Mario (in his standard, beach, and fire variations), Luigi (including fire Luigi), Princess Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and Koopa Troopa. They also include familiar enemies and items like Goombas, POW blocks, Question blocks, Karts, and various Koopa shells.
Some of these sets incorporate interactive elements. For example, the Mario’s Pipe Jump set, priced at $9.99, includes a lever designed to launch a Goomba when Mario lands on it. The Bowser’s Castle set features functional elements such as a drawbridge, trapdoors, and a lava ball launcher.
Previously, LEGO released Super Mario sets in two main categories: nostalgic collector's items aimed at the 18+ demographic, which included sets like the Game Boy and NES console, and play-focused sets designed for children. The new minifigure-based sets appear to strike a balance, appealing to both adult collectors and children who wish to play with them.
