Microsoft is releasing a limited-edition wireless controller and an officially licensed charging dock to celebrate the upcoming release of Gears of War: E-Day. Both items are now available for preorder, with a planned release date of September 30.
Gears of War: E-Day serves as a prequel to the acclaimed series, detailing the Emergence Day on the planet Sera when the Locust Horde first attacked humanity. The new Xbox Wireless Controller is designed to reflect this origin story. Its faceplate features a prominent red, cracked opening, with the fissures extending down the grips. These "3D molded, laser-etched details" allow for a tactile experience of the cracks. At the center of the red opening is the Crimson Omen, the series' iconic skull symbol.
The controller includes transparent red plastic for both triggers. The face buttons, excluding the central Xbox button, are unlabeled. This design aims to capture the gritty aesthetic of Emergence Day itself.
Complementing the controller is an 8BitDo Ultimate Charging Dock designed with the Gears of War: E-Day theme. It features the game's title and red crack designs that align with the controller's aesthetic. The dock comes with a rechargeable battery pack, providing a complete charging solution.
The controller is priced at $89.99. Preorders are live at Amazon and other major retailers. More details on the game's editions can be found in IGN's comprehensive preorder guide.
