Gloomwood Hightown Update Expands Its Labyrinth with Largest Vertical Area Yet

New Blood Interactive has released the Hightown Update for Gloomwood, the stealth-driven immersive sim that blends Thief-like sneaking with gunplay. The patch promises the game's largest, most vertical open area to date, introducing the Hightown District with gothic architecture and new routes for exploration. It also adds a new revolver-rifle hybrid weapon, built with a rifle stock and a scope, intended to counter the district's snipers and widen every skulk and snipe encounter.

A Steam teaser blog post highlights the patch as containing the largest, most vertical open area and the most sophisticated, lethal and complex enemy force yet seen in Gloomwood, while a release trailer on YouTube shows off the new zones and the revolver-rifle.

The update comes after a Christmas delay and landed on New Year's Day. The developer, Dillon Rogers, said on X that the revolver-rifle would help players tackle those pesky constable snipers.

Reddit users have observed that Hightown looks familiar to areas used in the 2020 demo, and side-by-side comparisons highlight how far the game has progressed since that initial showcase. Reading these comparisons, one realizes that 2020 was six years ago, a reminder of the long arc the project has followed.

Beyond Hightown, Gloomwood's ongoing updates have adorned the in progress build with wild new zones and features, from cutting-edge rat AI to the player-morphing monster juice. Gloomwood remains available to buy on Steam in early access, and the Hightown Update represents another major milestone in its road to a full release. Coverage from PC Gamer ties the patch into the broader arc of the game's development.
