Gothic Action RPG Crimson Moon Set for September Launch

Gothic action RPG Crimson Moon will launch on September 1 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Developer ProbablyMonsters announced the release date on Tuesday.

The game, first revealed in February, draws inspiration from gothic horror and classic heavy metal aesthetics. Players assume the role of a Nephilim, a half-angel, half-human, tasked with fighting through the fallen city of Gildenarch against demons, undead, and other supernatural creatures. Combat will feature a mix of melee attacks and supernatural abilities.

A gameplay trailer showcased the game's blend of solo and cooperative play. Players will navigate an atmospheric world that evokes titles like FromSoftware's Dark Souls and Elden Ring, battling various enemies and bosses.

Crimson Moon is designed as a more focused action adventure rather than a sprawling open-world RPG, with developers aiming for an experience that can be completed in a few sessions. The game is structured around replayable missions within Gildenarch's districts. These missions will involve hunting bounties, finding treasure, uncovering secrets, and defeating numerous enemies on the way to boss encounters.

Between missions, players will return to Sanctus Clypeus, a base of operations for the Crimson Moon knights. Here, they can purchase new weapons, upgrade equipment, acquire consumables, and interact with various characters. These characters include a veteran Nephilim mentor, a historian, a treasure hunter, and a vampire blacksmith.

The game's heavy metal soundtrack features original music created in collaboration with the band Health, guitarist Jared Dines, Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor, and Ice Nine Kills guitarist Ricky Armellino. Health has previously contributed to soundtracks for games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Crimson Moon will be available at launch for $19.99. A Deluxe Edition, priced at $29.99, will include the Ceremonial Armor Set and the Axe of the Gods cosmetic.
