Hyperkin has announced a new iteration of its SupaBoy Portable console, enabling users to play original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges on a handheld device. This new model is available for preorder at $129.99 and is slated for release on October 28.
The SupaBoy Portable features a design reminiscent of a larger SNES controller, complete with the original hardware's buttons. A 4.3-inch screen is situated in the center, with an aspect ratio toggle between 4:3 and 16:9 accessible via a button on the device's base. The console supports both NTSC and PAL cartridges through a region-free design and a dedicated switch.
Original SNES and Super Famicom cartridges are inserted into a slot on the top of the handheld, with the cartridge sticker art remaining visible, mirroring the original hardware's presentation. The SupaBoy Portable also offers compatibility with Super Gameboy, Game Genie, and EverDrive accessories.
Two controller ports on the device function as expected, allowing for multiplayer gaming by connecting additional controllers. Users can also connect accessories like the SNES Multi-Tap or third-party devices. The console includes a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery that Hyperkin claims provides up to 10 hours of gameplay on a single charge. Additionally, the SupaBoy Portable features TV output, enabling players to connect the device to a television.
The SupaBoy Portable is available in two translucent color options. Preorders can be placed through Amazon and Hyperkin's official website.
