Criterion Collection has unveiled its upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release for the animated musical KPop Demon Hunters, with the set scheduled to arrive on November 3. This physical edition celebrates the film that surprised industry expectations upon its release last year.
The KPop Demon Hunters set will be available in three configurations: a three-disc 4K+Blu-ray edition priced at $50, a two-disc Blu-ray version for $40, and a standard DVD package costing $30. Pre-orders through Criterion's website currently offer a discount on all formats. The premium three-disc set is highlighted for its inclusion of the film, a new documentary detailing its creation, video essays from filmmakers Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou, and exclusive postcards featuring characters Rumi, Mira, Zoey, and the fictional boy band Saga Boys. The collection will be housed in a custom-designed box adorned with new artwork depicting the main characters in action.
While KPop Demon Hunters remains accessible for streaming on Netflix, the Criterion release offers a tangible collectible for fans. The film's significant impact and success defied initial projections from Sony and Netflix, establishing it as a notable cultural touchstone. The movie's popularity has led to sustained promotional efforts and awards consideration, contributing to its widespread recognition. Information regarding a planned tour is currently limited, but a sequel is confirmed to be in development as part of a multi-year agreement between Netflix and directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.
