Retro gaming enthusiasts can now purchase the LEGO set inspired by the original PlayStation console. The set is available exclusively to LEGO Insiders starting October 1. Those who are not members of the LEGO Insiders program can purchase the set beginning October 4.
The LEGO PlayStation set is priced at $179.99 and includes a free LEGO Astro Bot set as a gift with purchase for Insiders. Membership in the LEGO Insiders program is free, and interested individuals can sign up on the official LEGO website.
The set recreates the original PlayStation console at a near 1:1 scale, mirroring the design of the 1994 Japanese and 1995 US release. It features the console itself and the original controller, predating the DualShock controller that would arrive later.
Notable details in the LEGO PlayStation set include a box design that references the original PlayStation packaging. The Power and Open buttons on the model are functional. Pressing the Power button reveals a green LEGO piece, simulating the console powering on, while the Open button releases the disc cover. Beneath the cover, two removable dioramas depict scenes from the games Gran Turismo (1997) and Ape Escape (1999).
