After an eight-year wait since its first announcement, the magical cozy game Witchbrook has finally received a release date. Developed as a pixel-art experience inspired by Kiki's Delivery Service, Witchbrook is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2027.
Witchbrook presents itself as a life simulation game in the vein of popular titles such as Stardew Valley, Coral Island, and Story of Seasons. While the cozy life sim genre is well-established, Witchbrook aims to distinguish itself through its innovative approach to the genre's conventions. Players step into the role of a new student at Witchbrook College, situated in the coastal town of Mossport, where they will learn magic, uncover local mysteries, and interact with a community of aspiring witches and wizards.
The game supports both single-player and cooperative multiplayer for up to three friends. In multiplayer, players can collaborate on building businesses, decorating homes, or engaging in activities like broomstick races. The narrative focus extends beyond magical training to include forming relationships with fellow students and town residents, with the potential for romance to develop.
Beyond academics and social interactions, Witchbrook offers extracurricular activities such as joining clubs and participating in cooking competitions. These activities are designed to enhance specific skills, potentially unlocking new recipes, spells, and gameplay opportunities. Players will have the freedom to pursue various interests between classes, from undertaking quests to focusing on domestic pursuits like baking.
A significant aspect of Witchbrook highlighted is its extensive customization options. Both non-player characters and player characters feature a high degree of individual design. Character creation includes a wide array of body types and clothing choices, and trailers have showcased hundreds of outfits and placeable furniture items, suggesting a deep level of personalization available to players.
