Mojang Studios has announced that Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be released on September 29. The sequel to the 2020 dungeon crawler will transport players to a new dimension, known as the Sift, which players will access through rifts opening in the Overworld. This announcement was initially made during the Minecraft Live event in March 2026.
Unlike the original Minecraft Dungeons, which featured a series of distinct levels, Minecraft Dungeons 2 presents the Sift as a more interconnected world. This new environment is comprised of regions that players can navigate seamlessly, offering a variety of quests, narrative events, settlements, caves, and other points of interest. Fast-travel hubs will also be available to assist with traversal. The game will continue the focus on heroics with a main narrative arc complemented by numerous side quests.
Significant changes are coming to the game's gear system. Armor will now feature four equipment slots, accommodating helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots, an expansion from the single slot in the previous game. A new item category, talismans, will provide passive bonuses for further character build customization. Additionally, items found within the Sift will now have a random effect, and the game will introduce more enchantments and enchantment books.
To facilitate cooperative play, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will include matchmaking and party codes. Players will also benefit from enhanced movement options, including the addition of a jump alongside the existing dodge-roll. This allows for new combat maneuvers like jump attacks and improved world navigation.
Players who pre-order Minecraft Dungeons 2 will receive a bonus package containing two hero skins, the twisted cape, and the twisted chicken pet.
In related Minecraft news, the base game is scheduled to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
