One year after its removal from digital storefronts, Devolver Digital's Poinpy has reappeared on iOS and Android devices and is now available as a free download. The platformer, originally launched as a Netflix exclusive, no longer requires a subscription to play.
Poinpy, developed by Downwell director Ojiro Fumoto, initially launched on June 10, 2022, as part of Netflix's gaming initiative. It was among a series of original indie titles released by the service. The game inverts the vertical platforming style of Downwell, with players ascending a well filled with platforms.
The objective in Poinpy is to collect fruits to fulfill drink orders for a giant cat while avoiding enemies and ascending. The game features intuitive drag-and-release controls for upward movement and a mid-air tap for a ground pound. As players progress, they can raise their Gourmet Level to unlock new areas.
Returning to the game, the swipe-to-jump controls are described as precise and satisfying. The gameplay loop is designed for quick sessions, offering a compelling "one more run" experience. The game also features a colorful art style and detailed sound design, with a distinct crank sound providing feedback for player actions.
Poinpy is available for free on iOS and Android, with no in-game advertisements, microtransactions, or paywalls. A tip screen is included for players who wish to support the developers.
