Mortal Shell 2 PS5 Physical Edition Preorders Sell Out Due to High Demand

Preorders for the physical 'Revered Edition' of the upcoming Souls-like game Mortal Shell 2 on PlayStation 5 have completely sold out, according to developer Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack. The companies announced on X (formerly Twitter) on July 16 that demand for the game's physical PS5 release "exceeded expectations," making it impossible for supply to keep pace.

"We sincerely apologize if you were planning on preordering the Revered Edition and it is no longer available in your territory," Cold Symmetry stated. "Due to Mortal Shell II’s release date of August 20, and the manufacturing time required to replenish stock, there is a very low chance of additional physical copies becoming available before the game’s release."

Cold Symmetry indicated that they are working with their distribution partner to assess ongoing demand and will provide updates on any potential next steps. However, they cautioned that there is no guarantee of a stock replenishment plan following the game's launch, as such decisions are not solely within the developer's control.

This supply issue is specific to the $70 Revered Edition for PS5, which includes the base game along with bonus items such as a collector’s tuck-in box, a steelbook case, fine art prints, and a physical artbook. Retailer listings from sites like Best Buy and GameStop reflect this scarcity, with the edition often marked as "coming soon" or unavailable. The standard $50 physical edition of the game, which omits the additional collector's items, remains available for preorder.

Mortal Shell 2 is a standalone sequel to the 2020 title, Mortal Shell. The game is known for its unique approach to the Souls-like genre, where players equip different "shells" that alter their playstyle and offer distinct combat interactions. The game is scheduled for release on August 20. In the meantime, a playable demo, referred to as an open beta, is currently available on Steam. Completing this demo rewards players with the "Flayed Harbinger" skin and the option to skip the game's prologue upon the full release.
