Mortal Shell 2 PS5 Physical Edition Sells Out Ahead of Launch

Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 Revered Edition of the upcoming Soulslike game Mortal Shell 2 have completely sold out, publisher Playstack announced. The highly anticipated title is set to release on August 20th, with a significant portion of its physical PS5 copies now unavailable.

Playstack stated that demand for the Revered Edition has surpassed expectations, leading to its depletion across multiple retailers. This edition is exclusive to the PS5 platform, making it the sole option for obtaining a physical copy of Mortal Shell 2 on disc for Sony's console. The publisher noted that the stock shortage is impacting a growing number of markets.

Given the game's proximity to its release date and the time required for manufacturing additional stock, Playstack indicated there is a low probability of more physical copies becoming available before launch. The publisher is currently assessing ongoing demand with their distribution partner to determine if a post-launch replenishment plan is feasible, but stressed that "there is no guarantee of a stock replenishment plan after launch as this decision is not ours to make."

While the premium Revered Edition, priced at £55 ($70), is sold out, the standard £40 ($50) edition of Mortal Shell 2 remains available at retail. The Revered Edition includes a steelcase, a physical artbook, and art prints, contributing to its appeal among consumers.

Mortal Shell 2 is considered one of the year's most anticipated games, despite its release in a crowded August-September period. A recent PC beta for the action game saw over 500,000 downloads, suggesting strong player interest in the title's evolution of the Souls-like formula.
