Nintendo is taking a rare respite from first-party releases in August 2026, with no new titles planned for either the Switch or its successor, the Switch 2. Despite a quiet month for original Nintendo content, Switch 2 owners will have access to a substantial lineup of ports and remasters, featuring some of the most acclaimed games ever developed.
New Indie Sensation
The month kicks off with "Big Walk," releasing on August 4. Developed by House House, the studio behind "Untitled Goose Game," this multiplayer exploration game is described as a cooperative puzzle-solving adventure infused with irreverent humor and a distinctive visual style. Early impressions suggest it offers a novel multiplayer experience.
Soulslike Debut and RPG Classic
"Lies of P: Complete Edition" arrives on August 5, marking the Nintendo debut of the highly-rated Soulslike. Developed by Korean studio Neowiz, the game offers a gothic take on the Pinocchio narrative, combined with challenging sword fighting. This edition includes the 2025 expansion, "Overture."
Later in the month, on August 11, the Switch 2 will receive "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" in its remastered form. Originally released in 2006 and considered a precursor to "Skyrim," this fantasy RPG allows players to thwart a cult aiming to open portals to a demon world, though the game is equally known for its expansive side quests and player freedom.
Iconic Series Returns
August 27 will see the release of a significant remaster collection, including "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots." This marks the first time since its original PlayStation 3 release that the title has been available on other platforms. The collection also features the PSP title "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker," with both games available for separate purchase. These entries from Hideo Kojima are noted for their unique blend of bizarre narrative elements and brilliant gameplay.
The Culmination of Miyazaki's Work
The month's releases are headlined by "Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" on August 28. FromSoftware's 2022 open-world action-RPG is widely regarded as a modern classic and the peak of director Hidetaka Miyazaki's acclaimed Souls series. After considerable effort to optimize the game for the Switch 2, recent previews have been positive. This edition includes the "Shadow of the Erdtree" expansion, released in 2024, offering hundreds of hours of gameplay across these landmark titles.
